I am not the one, who spends 3.348 Pounds Sterling on a pair of shoes. That is too steep for me. I prefer lesser known – and more accessible – makers .
However, I know a gentleman, who doesn’t hesitate to climb Everest. Above his latest purchase from John Lobb on St. James in London, a pair of nubuck shoes with a napped suede finish or “medium brown repello calf brogue oxford caps”, as the invoice states.

The making of the last at Foster & Son
Most people, who are interested in fine shoes have heard about John Lobb. Many will also be able to mention Cleverley. Less people know Foster & Son, even though they are placed on the same level as John Lobb and Cleverley. In fact, their lastmaker Terry Moore is regarded by some connoisseurs as the world’s best lastmaker.
Not long ago I paid them a visit in the Jermyn Street store, which also contains a workshop on first floor. The owner Richard Edgecliffe-Johnson showed me around.

Traditionally, a navy blue suit is the suit of the businessman. But, it can also be a suit for fun. Let your Italian tailor cut it, and pair it with brown shoes.

Stefano Bemer in his workshop (2012)
I don’t have bespoke shoes from Stefano Bemer, so I cannot comment on the fit, but the shoes displayed in his Florentine workshop all look beautiful. Methods also seem very authentic. Many of Stefano Bemer’s leathers come from France. A pair of shoes are 2.100 Euro (June, 2011).

Update 29th of July 2012: I have just read the sad news that Stefano Bemer has died 27th of July 2012 at age 48. He was ill for many years (diabetes, I believe), however still capable of working. His shop will continue operating.
