When you cannot imagine more suits or sport coats you would like to order at the tailor, you turn to overcoats. A new field surfaces. You realize there’s a huge variation in men’s overcoats. The navy blue and charcoal species are just the beginning.

Trends in Pitti Uomo overcoats

Pitti Uomo is a good place to look for inspiration. Both on people, who attend the fair, and on dummies at the stands you can notice interesting fabrics, cuts and design details. In regard to fashion trends, which of course are of minor importance, though nonetheless of value to follow, you see a lot of overcoats in urbanized tweed, that is shepherd’s check, dogtooth and the like in subdued shades. The influence of military attire is also present in overcoats. The British Warm in particular has an impact at the moment.

Tommy Hilfiger invited for a Drink

The PR agency pitched again and again, and finally I accepted an invitation to a Tommy Hilfiger event in connection with Pitti Uomo. Although Tommy Hilfiger’s clothing doesn’t engage me much, it could be an experience visiting Palazzo Corsini, where Tommy’s event would take place. The old palazzo faces the river Arno, and like other buildings in Florence Palazzo Corsini is rich on frescos. And, there would be free drinks, probably.

On a first floor Tommy’s casual clothing were hanging on mannequins. Enourmous chandeliers above us shed light on the party. At the back of the room Tommy gave interviews, occasionally interrupted by a fan who wanted a selfie with Tommy in it.

We had a drink, and next we went for champagne. People were enjoying themselves, and I suppose that is the criteria for success for such an event.

After an hour or so we left Tommy and Palazzo Corsini to find a restaurant, where we could have a bistecca fiorentina.

Classic Style from Pitti Uomo 91 in Florence

Piiti Uomo 91: Erik Mannby, one of Sweden’s best dressed men. Notice the proper length of jacket and trousers. Swedes I’ve seen in Pitti Uomo tend to wear their suits, jackets and trousers too short and to0 tight. Not Erik. Erik runs the company E-F-V Clothing.

Pitti Uomo attacks

Internet gentlemen enjoy tearing apart the style prepositions from Pitti Uomo. Indeed not everybody is a well-dressed man there. In fact only a small percentage is. However, when more than 25.000 people show up at the clothing fair, the majority men, you do see quite a few really well-dressed men. Remember, many of these guys have thought through thoroughly how you create style with clothing. Moreover, they have practiced a lot.

Pitti Uomo: Heritage Style, among other things

I will not call the first and second photos heritage style. Contemporary classic style would be a more accurate designation.  However, the remaining three photos have elements of heritage style in them. All photos are photos of mine from Pitti Uomo.

Pitti Uomo: Maciej Zaremba and Max Söderberg

Maciej Zaremba displays the stile latino. He does it well. Especially, I like the colour combination. The tobacco suit, the sky blue shirt with soft collar points and the rhubarb red tie put inside the waistband makes up a well-balanced whole of shades.

Max_Soderberg_Pitti_Uomo_by_Torsten_Grunwald

Max Soderberg of Engelska Herr in Malmo tells us a bit rules, and why we should be carefull with them. Max is a large fellow, who shouldn’t be wearing close fitting light-coloured clothing and a db jacket according to tradition.

Yet, exactly that style works for him. I think the secret is the length of jacket and trousers. Had they been any longer elegance would have vanished.
