Pitti Uomo – Wear the overcoat as a cape
Pitti Uomo is fun. The menswear trade fair in Florence is a theater of style with good and bad acts.
Compared to the winter trade fair of last year, I didn’t identify significant changes. People could be wearing more tweeds and less flannel, but I am not sure about that. Boots were common, and so were monk strap shoes. The narrow cut was still there, however not as uniquely popular as before. People liked hats and colourful scarves. Lots and lots of grey and blue, including lighter shades like royal blue.
The wearing of overcoats as capes, which has a dramatic effect, is seen before too. But, the art of carrying it out is always a challenge. The gentleman in the upper photo does it quite well, doesn’t he?

Jackets in raw silk and marcella
What to do, when the summer wardrobe is already full of linen, cotton, hopsack and fresco jackets? You can keep adding summer jackets in the same classic and safe style, or you can try something new.
A jacket in light grey raw silk could be an option, if you decide to follow an adventurous track. A more modern and soft solution would be an unlined jacket in cream marcella or piqué cotton.
Notice the fine shoulder area and fit of the light grey jacket.

Taking pleasure in dressing
50 years ago dressing was a serious activity. Your position in society was at stake, when you were tying your tie in the morning.
Nowadays, position and dressing seem weakly related. Position has become more about personality and less about appearance and clothing.
It doesn’t have to be a bad change. It means that dressing has been set free from a social pressure. Today we can dress for pleasure and fun.

Blue jacket and grey trousers
If there was such a thing like permanent or eternal style, a blue odd jacket paired with grey trousers would be a part of it. It doesn’t mean that the configuration leads to a succes automatically. Cloth and cut are important as well as shoes and accessories to the result. Some gentlemen master the configuration better than others.
