If you dream of a 40 years old pair of shoes like ones Prince Charles has, timely repairs are necessary. Recently, I brought two pairs of bespoke shoes from Kielman and Januszkiewicz in Warsaw to my local shoemaker Carsten Itkin, so they can live if not for 40 years, then for 15 or 20 years. Itkin is a specialist in refurbishing leather shoes. Sadly, he is about to retire.
For the toes I went for metal taps again, though flush metal toe taps. They look cool, and the former metal taps only gave limited protection to the very point of the sole. I would not attach metal taps to a pair of black captoes for the office. That would be overkill. Brown shoes are a different matter.
