We were driving to Malpensa Airport outside Milan after a week of spring skiing in Monte Rosa. Time was limited. We were still in our skiing dress. But, it shouldn’t prevent me from paying Sartoria D’Ambrosio a short visit. I have heard good things about this tailoring house located by itself in the rather small city of Casale Monferrato.

When arriving, the shop was closed. I had forgotten about mid-day break. By coincidence, I saw the name “D’Ambrosio” on the staircase just beside of the shop. I rang the bell, and a woman let us in.

On 3rd floor we were greeted by a drowsy gentleman in a dressing gown. It turned out to be Lillo D’Ambrosio, the owner of the current Sartoria D’Ambrosio and grandchild of the founder.

I explained why I came by. In dressing gown, Mr. D’Ambrosio decided to show us around in the silent sartoria downstairs. He did prefer though not to have his picture taken.

In the workshop, I only saw garments on tables and hangers, so I cannot really comment on style and fit. However, the workshop had the smell of true sartoria.
