Nobody wears a tie on weekends anymore. Even conservatively dressed men will jump from their dark suits to jeans or chinos, when they are off-duty. The fine in-between-attire has disappeared. Not so 30-40-50 years ago. Many men would aspire for a dress up weekend.

A few more plates from the German menswear magazine from Spring 1957 reflect the situation back then …

In the upper photo the man combines a grey glen check jacket with flapped patch pockets with grey flannel trousers. The sky blue shirt has a pin collar. His yellow vest matches his yellow socks. The shoes looks like a wallabee type of shoes, made famous by Clarks in the 1960s.

Then we have a roomy jacket with straight fronts similar to the Spanish teba jacket, although more structured. The yellow shirt is there. Moreover, green repp tie, light brown gabardine trousers, and derby shoes.

Thirdly, we have a casual combination of a greyish-blue plaid sports jacket and fawn cords. The red polo shirt hyper-matches a pair of red socks and a red handkerchief.
