The cut of garments in the 1970s can be dubious but I have a soft spot for the bold colours, the large patterns, and the strong fabrics (save terylene) in that period. Above a new checkered bespoke sports jacket made up from Mario Zegna vintage cloth. I pair it with a light brown bespoke shirt, an unlined brown Antonio Muro wool tie, ready-to-wear cavalry twill trousers, and old bespoke derby shoes.

very distinct without being over the top, and very good pattern matching by the tailor.
Can you tell us where you found the rtw cavalry twill trousers?

Torsten says
Christian, thanks. The pants are from Cordings.

Torsten,
I usually find you very well put together, but this is beyond awful. The colours and the textures give off a strange 70s vibe, looking like you came straight out of a James Bond movie with Roger Moore from said era. Still, the fit is excellent, especially on the jacket, great roll, nice shoulders and pattern matching.
TRC says
‘Beyond awful’?…then goes ahead to compliment the fit and cut.
Anyhow, it is not my favourite look as a ‘black/ charcoal/ dark-grey’ tie is inapposite with brown shoes, IMO.
Another peccadillo is i find the pocket square not particularly complemetary – it is neither fish nor fowl as it doesn’t stand alone and it doesn’t particularly work well with the outfit but that is my own issue. Otherwise, distinct and adventurous without being gaudy!
Torsten,if i may trouble you; how is the Cordings cut? I keep taking a peek at the trousering offerings (proper winter-weight cords and twills) but two things keep stopping me: aggressive tapering and my wife threatens to leave me if i embrace the ‘complete grandpa look’.
Looking at your trousers, the cut seems fine? Not billowy and not tight in the obvious places.
Torsten says
TRC and Principe, Cordings trousers are too tappered for me as well. Moreover, their calvalry twill is too soft. The colour is spot on, though. Usually I wear grey flannels with a jacket like that, most people will do that, but I thought it was time bring on cavalry twills, although they make the look somewhat retro-fied or grandpa-like. The tie is dark brown, the silk handkerchief is cream coloured, the shirt is beige, and the jacket is lightbrown (and orange), so, technically, the items should share a harmonizing brown colour.
TRC says
Thanks for the response, Torsten. The colour in the trousers is spot-on indeed. I will now give it a try.
RE: harmony, your description of each item of clothing makes more sense now. it just shows how much pictures distort reality.
